Capoeira

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that incorporates martial art, dance, music, improvisation, and cultural history.  It arose in Colonial-era Brazil as enslaved Africans and their descendants fought for freedom from oppression.  This art form has spread throughout the world in the past 25 years as many people are drawn to the unique blend of movement, music, community, artistic expression, tradition and self-defense. It is intriguing to watch and even more fun to learn.

Classes will be open to all, though they will be most suited for adults and children 10 and older.  Classes will be Sundays, 1:00pm-2:30pm in the Hartland Elementary School gym beginning October 26th. Drop-in classes cost $15 each (with discounts for families, 2 for $25 & 3 for $30).  A 8-class session costs $95 with class dates Oct 27 - Dec 22   (no class Nov 3)

Please contact h.pogue@gmail.com for information about the capoeira or the class.

Instructors: Heather Pogue & Eric Johnson
Heather Pogue and Eric "E" Johnson trained and practiced capoeira for many years in Chicago before moving to Vermont in 2014.  They have taught capoeira on and off throughout the Upper Valley, and are excited to bring it once again to this community.  Please visit www.gingartecapoeiravt.org for more information on our group and the art form.
