Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form that incorporates martial art, dance, music, improvisation, and cultural history. It arose in Colonial-era Brazil as enslaved Africans and their descendants fought for freedom from oppression. This art form has spread throughout the world in the past 25 years as many people are drawn to the unique blend of movement, music, community, artistic expression, tradition and self-defense. It is intriguing to watch and even more fun to learn.
